Image Details

Purple Haze – Live Concert Photo, Royal Albert Hall, London, 1969.

This image captures Jimi Hendrix performing on stage with The Jimi Hendrix Experience, playing his white Fender Stratocaster beneath the lights of one of music’s most iconic venues.

The show marked a key moment for the band and the era—filmed for a planned documentary and remembered as one of their final UK appearances together.

This print suits interiors built around music history, visual storytelling, or bold color. A strong addition to collections focused on rock and roll legends, vintage concert photography, or images that bring sound to the wall.

About the Artist

David Redfern was one of the most celebrated music photographers of the 20th century, known for capturing the soul of live performance through his lens. From the smoky jazz clubs of London to the electric stages of international rock tours, Redfern's work spanned over four decades and includes iconic moments in jazz, rock, soul, and pop history.

Nicknamed “the Cartier-Bresson of jazz” by drummer Buddy Rich, Redfern photographed legends like Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and Frank Sinatra—with whom he toured as official photographer in the 1980s. His sharp eye, deep respect for music, and ability to immortalize the energy of live shows made his work both intimate and iconic.

Redfern also founded the Redferns Music Picture Library, one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of music imagery, now part of Getty Images. His legacy lives on in every frame—timeless visuals that continue to inspire music lovers, collectors, and historians.
