Image Details

Elvis – Vintage Portrait Photo, Hollywood, circa 1956.

This black and white image shows world famous musician Elvis Presley in Hollywood during the breakout year of his career. Just weeks after releasing “Heartbreak Hotel,” he had already sold over a million records—without a single formal singing lesson to his name.

The photo captures Presley just before the wave crested. His style was untrained, his presence undeniable, and his rise baffled traditionalists who didn’t yet understand his pull. This is Elvis on the edge of transformation—caught between local talent and global icon.

This print works well in music rooms, creative spaces, or interiors built around legacy and edge. A great fit for collections focused on rock and roll history.

About the Artist

United Press photo by staff photographer Stewart Sawyer, shot in Hollywood. Here is Elvis Presley, a man who never took a singing lesson in his life, yet managed to make a record ("Heartbreak Hotel") which sold more than a million copies after just a few weeks on the market. His later hits have firmly established him a top musical star --- but observers along Broadway and at Hollywood and Vine are still scratching their heads, baffled by it all.

This photograph was captured on a historic 35MM film camera, which is part of it's beauty- so the archival look is presented well when printed, instead of ultra high-definition camera prints.
